Four Reasons to Visit Niagara Falls this Summer
As if the view of the magnificent Horseshoe Falls were not enough to pull you to this area for your summer holiday, you’ll find a whole host of other activities await you once you check in to your Niagara Falls hotel room this year. Whether you’re a passionate foodie or just comic-book obsessed, here are a few reasons why you should be booking your flights to southern Ontario this summer.
1. Dress up for Niagara Falls Comic Con
From 1st to 3rd June 2017, head to the Scotiabank Convention Centre for the annual Niagara Falls Comic Con. With the incredible Falls as a backdrop to the whole event, there will be over 150,000 square feet of exhibitors, comic books, movie cars, cosplay contests, celebrity autographs and photo-ops for you to enjoy. There will even be a video gaming arena, a Falls Horror Fest and more entertainment besides. This year, celebrities include Barbara Eden of ‘I Dream of Jeannie’, WWE legend Sting, and Caleb McLaughlin of ‘Stranger Things’.
2. Blend in with the locals on Canada Day
Saturday 1st July 2017 marks the 150th anniversary of the Canadian confederation, and to celebrate, Canadians from across the country will be flocking to Niagara Falls just to take part in the spectacular events. From 11am a huge parade will march along Victoria Avenue and Queen Street, before the Opening Ceremonies at City Hall. All day you’ll be able to join in with the merriment of the many street parties in town, indulging in a little free birthday cake, whilst enjoying the many buskers, musicians, a car show, an art show, food vendors, and much more besides. Then in the afternoon, head to the main stage by City Hall for a musical extravaganza.
3. Buy tickets for the Wild for Wine Festival
Canadians are crazy about wine, especially their number one alcoholic export: Icewine. With this in mind, it’s no wonder most of them make their way to Niagara for their award-winning wineries and breweries during the summer months. Aside from the many wine country tours to enjoy, there’s a ‘Wild for Wine’ festival held at Safari Niagara on 22nd July. If you’re one of the lucky few who attend this year, you’ll get to enjoy some of the most desirable wines in the whole of Canada, whilst treating yourself to a few well-chosen food pairings.
4. Watch the Onguiaahra: Thunder of Waters
Niagara Falls is regularly lit up to mark special occasions or public holidays, but this summer, people will be treated to an all-new, spectacular laser light and musical display. Niagara Park will be showing Onguiaahra: Thunder of Waters Sound & Light Show from 25th August up until 4th September, in Queen Victoria Park. Expect your heart to pound to the beat of dramatic overtures, while water jets and lights of every colour dance around you to create a visual sensation, all helping to bring the story of Niagara to life.
